b. 1753, d. 21 Feb 1831
FatherRichard Brann1 b. 24 Feb 1733, d. 1774
MotherMary Baker b. c 1733
Birth*1753 Richard Brann , son of Richard Brann and Mary Baker, was born in 1753.1
Baptism20 Dec 1753 Richard Brann was baptized on 20 Dec 1753 at St Lawrence Church, Hawkhurst, KEN, ENG.1
Marriage16 Feb 1781  On Friday, 16 Feb 1781 Richard Brann married Mary Cover, daughter of Richard Cover and Ann Christmas, in St John The Baptist, Wittersham, KEN, ENG,The younger Richard Brann married Mary Cover, daughter of Richard Cover and Ann Christmas of Northiam, Sussex. The marriage took place on 16 February 1781 at St John the Baptist, Wittersham, starting the hundred-year association between the Brann family and Wittersham. In the register, Richard is recorded as being resident in the parish of [High] Halden at the time of his marriage. Neither he nor Mary was able to sign their name.
Richard and Mary had eight children between the years of 1780 and 1799, when Mary died. Although their first son, Richard Cover (1780), was born in Wittersham, their next three children, William and Mary (1783), and Thomas (1784), were born in Lydd on Romney Marsh. It was not until William (1787), John (1789), Curteis (1792), and David (1795) were born that the Branns settled for good in Wittersham.
Richard Brann died some years after his wife Mary, on 21 February 1831 in Wittersham, aged 78.
Richard Cover, their first son, was born before their marriage and was consequently listed as "base born" in the parish register; he raised a small family on Romney Marsh. The first William died in childhood; the second William raised his own small family in Rolvenden. Thomas raised a large family in Wittersham and lived to the ripe old age of 93. John moved across Kent to the village of Great Chart; his only daughter Mary emigrated to Australia on the barque Roxburgh Castle in 1839. David was a cordwainer (shoemaker) in Back Street, Wittersham, whose only son died in infancy.
The large number of Branns who lived in Wittersham throughout the nineteenth century descended primarily from the large families of two sons of Richard Brann: Thomas, who had 15 children, and Curteis, who raised a family of 10.

However it is likely there is some link between the two in the Wittersham's close community.
Richard himself was born in 1733 he died in 1774. In a short life of approximately 41 years he did managed to father seven children in twenty years. The first being another Richard and the last child being born six years before his death. It is unknown when his wife Alice died although she was probably was born around the same year as her husband in 1733, they had three boys approximately four girls between them.1
