Death* | 31 Dec 2011 | Paul L Willis died on 31 Dec 2011 at Eckert, CO, USA, , at age 77 Obituary 'Paul L. Willis (77) of Cedaredge rejoined family, friends and mentors when he passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Horizon's Care Center in Eckert. He was born February 26, 1934 to H.S. (Sy) and Elsie M. Willis in Delta. Mr. Willis was an avid farmer and cattleman, starting long before he graduated from Delta High School in 1953. He grew his first crops on family and neighborhood acreages, raised pigs, chickens and fed out cattle by the time he was 14 years old, learning from grandparents and favorite uncles. Mr. Willis served in the US Army between 1955 and 1957, primarily stationed in Germany. He used the opportunity and his leave times to travel several neighboring countries in his own car. Many interesting stories that he told of the rebuilding of the wore-torn area were passed on to his sons and grandchildren. Mr. Willis married Nina L. Zink in Delta on March 15, 1958. They celebrated their 53rd anniversary last March. In 1960, they had the opportunity to acquire an interest in a ranch in the Gunnison Valley east of Delta, with a cattle grazing permit on Grand Mesa. They spent the next 25 years raising their three sons in a true long days hard work environment. In 1985, they moved to a small farm in Eckert, and in 2007, into Cedaredge. One special period in his life was the few years when he was also a school bus driver. He enjoyed the community of young people and the exuberance of their youth. He liked the feeling of promise that youngsters bring. Mr. Willis was an active Colorado Farm Bureau member and enjoyed more than 50 years of service and participation on local, statewide and national efforts. Mr. Willis is survived by his wife and his sons, Mark (Connie) of Cedaredge, Aaron (Sherry) of Cedaredge, and Joseph of Mead, CO. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren, Jason Willis (Arada) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Nicole Koschmann (Jody) of Okinawa, Japan, Sember Steel (James) of Windsor, Colo., Jacob Willis of Loveland, Colo., and Isabella Willis, of Loveland, Colo., and by 7 great-grandchildren, Tiger Willis, Sterling Willis, Kayla Koschmann, Myles Koschmann, Kaden Koschmann, Sora Gilliam and James Steel. He is also survived by his sister, Maryetta Williams of Marble Falls, Texas, a nephew, David Hinton of Ft. Collins, Colo., and a niece, Pamela Williams of Stafford, Virginia. At his request, a family memorial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.1' |
