Uncle Osler said Uncle Lon (Alonzo) always bragged about making a big log chain to use, and Uncle Osler asked his father (Samuel) about it. Samuel said he took Lon with him when he was 4 years old to Dubuque and bought the chain and brought it home.

Alonzo's father, Samuel owned the farm that Uncle Frank's father had owned. They had to shell the corn by hand and Alonzo took it to Cedar Rapids to sell (now here's the skeleton in the closet) - then he spent the money.
He also took a butchered hog, realized the profits from that - therefore Samuel lost his farm because he was depending on the corn money to pay for it. The prodigal son (?????)
