Text: Notes on William F. Doyle, occupation Farmer, was born circa 1796/1798 in Charles Co, MD. He was the son of
David and Francis Doyle. We know this from his 2nd and 3rd marriage records in Montgomery Co, VA.

He traveled, when we are not sure, from Charles Co, MD to Bedford Co, VA and married Margaret Burgandine 13 Feb
1820 (M. index sec 229, sec 5, chap 10). She was under 21 because her father had to sign the request for their marriage.
She was born in Pennsylvannia as indicated in the 1850 Montgomery Co Census. Her parents were John and Margaret
Burgandine. We aren't sure of the last name spelling since on the marriage record there are two spellings BURGENDINE
and BURGANTINE. Later in the will of her mother, Margaret, found in Montgomery Co, VA 7 May 1849, the spelling also
found to be BURGENDOINE. (John and Margaret were German Quakers).

Sometime after they were married in 1820, they moved to Shawsville, Montgomery Co, VA near Christiansburg. In 1830,
he purchased from Halpain Zachaprial Stanley 100 acres on the waters of North Fork, Roanoke River. This land was near
Big Tunnel in Shawsville, VA. The 1850 Montgomery Co census lists the value of the property at $3,500. The census' of
1830-1860 show his wife, Margaret, as housewife and born in Pennsylvannia. The 1870 census lists his wife as Le Anne
whom he married in 1867, so Margaret died between 1860 and 1867. It is believed she is buried near Shawsville, VA.

Records are found for William F. Doyle in the Army of Northern Virginia, under Robert E. Lee, with the rank of Lance
Corporal 16 Apr 1862 - 31 Dec 1864. Then in the 3rd Virginia Heavy Artillery, Johnson Artillery and Epes Company, for
the duration of the war. It is uncertain if this was William F. Sr or his son, William F. Jr. More likely his son.

The date of his death is unknown. It is believed he was buried in Christiansburg. However, the markers at the old cemetery
behind the courthouse were destroyed by vandalism and I was unable to locate the grave. (Sarahjane is a descendant of
WF Doyle's first son, James A.)
