Son of the late Harry James Bandy by his wife Mary Elizabeth of 8 Church St Buckingham. Born Buckingham 22 Dec 18.., educated there. Was a draper at Chatham. Enlisted in Sept 1915 and was promoted to the rank of Coy Sergt Major 8 Jan 1916. Served with the expeditionary force in France and Flanders from 15 Apr1916. Died at No 5 Casualty Clearing Station 18Sept following from wounds received in action three days previously. Buried in Corbie Communal Cemetery extension, south west of Albert. Unmarrried. He was probably killed in the opening day of the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, 15 - 22 September 1916 which was a part of the great battle of the Somme: A renewal of the offensive finally broke through the area that had proved to be so difficult since 14 July. using a small number of tanks for the first time in history, the British Army finally captured High Wood and pressed on through Flers and up the Bapaume road to Courcelette .11,12 |
