Note* | 12 May 1863 | A report of the first demonstration in connexion with the then newly established Co-operative Society at Wing, Bucks., took place on the Weds. The 6th of May 1863. The Wing brass band had been engaged for the occasion, and accompanied the procession around the village, headed by Mr. R. SYRATT, and Mr. John JENNINGS members of the Society, carrying a large banner, with a large crowd following behind. After the procession, tea was served to about 400 persons in two large booths provided for the occasion, in the School Close. This was followed by games such as racing, base-ball and the favourite game of kiss in the ring.. At 7, o'clock, a meeting was formed. The chair was occupied by the Rev. P. T. OUVRY, the vicar, who addressed the company, followed by Messrs. Thomas BANDY, John JENNINGS, and Thomas THORNE. A report stated that there was already a dividend of 1 shilling and 11 pence in the pound on the purchases of members.
